SUTTON: "Near-perfect conditions today enticed many people to Brady's Lake in the Central Highland for the final day of the Australian and International Championships. The course for the Slalom Championship is a man-made canal stretching between Bronte and Brady's Lake. And along the entire length, spectators and competitors alike climbed the rocky banks to get a closer view of the rough-and-tough action as competitors used every ounce of skill and muscle to navigate their way down through the gates of the course. This year's competition has been given a real boost with two of the world's best competing in the International events. From Britain, the current World Champion, Albert Kerr, thrilled enthusiasts with a great display of skill and timing as he negotiated his way down the course. Coming to grips first with what is euphemistically termed 'The Cruncher', and then the wild action of the so-called 'Washing Machine'. Kerr showed perfect control going through the poles forwards and then in reverse. Following Albert Kerr, the current european Champion Norbert Sattler gave a polished performance as he drove down powerfully through 'The Cruncher', the 'Washing Machine', and then swinging his canoe round for the reverse down through the hanging gates. With international competition, the organisers say the current standard in Australia is likely to be greatly improved."
