Background: As the Moslem world observes the Month of Ramadan, thousands gathered in prayer outside the Al-Husseini Grand Mosque in Amman, Jordan, on Friday. The occasion is an important one, for Moslems believe the joint prayer brings many benefits from God. The ceremony used to be held at Al-Aksa Mosque in Jerusalem - now this is occupied by Israel and the Moslems on the Eastern Bank of the Jordan fulfil their religious duties in Amman instead.
Fasting from sunrise until sunset is obligatory, but one of the compensations is a special sweet called Katayef produced for Ramadan. The street market is also busy with so many pilgrims in the city.
