    Background: BACKGROUND: Marine Corps unites taking part in the festivities were the U. S. Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, Silent Drill Platoon, marching unites from the Marine Barracks, Washington, D. C., and the U. S. Marine Band. The band, better known as the "President's Own," played for President John Adams in 1801 and for every president of the United States since. The band was liked by John Phillip Sousa from 1880 to 1892. Sousa also composed many of American's most famous marches including the Stars and Stripes Forever.
