Background: Visnews cameras were at the Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington Feb 10 as John Foster Dulles, the United States Secretary of State was greeted by Major General Heaton as he entered hospital for a hernia operation.

Doctors are unable to say how long Mr. Dulles will need to remain.

During his absence from duty Mr. Dulles has stepped down from his office and Mr. Eisenhower has assigned Dulles' former assistant Herter to carry on.

No change in the Foreign policy of the United States of America is envisaged.

Telegrams of sympathy have been received by Mr. Dulles from many countries of the world.
