SV Tilt to top of Jodrell Bank radiotelescope.
CU Prof. Lovell
TRANSCRIPT: Interviewer: "Well now, the Russians say they have a telescope which is 20 times larger than the one behind you now. What do you say about that?"
Prof. Lovell: "Well, I had some Russians with me in August who surprised me by saying that the Academy was putting out transmissions 20 times larger than this one but I think it is unlikely .....I...... .. On the other hand, I think it would be wise to anticipate considerable Russian achievement in the field of radio-astronomy & large radio-telescopes."
Interviewer: "Does this mean, sir, that their chances of tracking the rocket are 20 times bigger than ours?"
Prof. Lovell: "Oh no, not at all. The tracking of a rocket by radar does not depend on the size of the telescope. It can in fact be an embarrassment in some cases."
