MR. YAMANI: "Because our statement that we will now declare, the political line of the leadership of the PLO is going completely with the American settlement, we have another political analysation to resist this settlement, which is very clear in our statement."
QUESTION: "What is the American settlement as you see it?
MR. YAMANI: "The U.S. -- the Americans, have their plans to arrange the area concerning their special pans to keep their interests -- mainly the oil -- and to eliminate the (INDISTINCT) movement, the Arab Liberation Front and all the popular supported in he area to safeguard their interests in the Middle' East. Our aim is really no real peace in the Middle East. Peace will never be lasting in the Middle East if the Zionist characters will dominate Israel. Our fight -- our military fight -- one of its aims is to eliminate the Zionist character of Israel and.......to strengthen the the popular supported between the Palestinians, the Arab countries and Isreal and then to establish socialist regimes in all the areas ad a real democracy state in Israel."

Background: The Popular Front For the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), led by Marxist intellectual Dr. George Habbash, announced in Beirut on Thursday (26 September) that it was withdrawing from the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO).
The PLO is the overall commando authority and is headed by Mr. Yasser Arafat. The PFLP accuse them of taking part in moves aimed at a Middle east settlement which would betray the Palestinian cause.
Mr. Ahmed Yamani -- also known as Abu Maher, one of the leaders of the PFLP, told a news conference that withdrawl from the PLO executive committee also meant withdrawal from the central council, which serves as a link between the PLO and the Palestine National Council.
The Front say that they will continue to work within the National Council, the popular unions and committees inside the refugee camps.
The PFLP says that it has confirmation of secret contacts between the PLO leadership and the United States, despite PLO denials of this. Such a settlement would guarantee the security and stability of Israel and increase U.S. influence in the region, it charged.
Mr. Yamani spoke to the news conference in English: a transcript of his statement and answers to questions follows:
