Background: UPPER VOLTA PRESIDENT SANGOULE LAMIZANA WHO ENDED A NINE-VISIT TO GHANA ON SUNDAY (25 AUGUST), ATTENDED A MILITARY TATTOO AT THE ACCRA SPORTS STADIUM ON FRIDAY NIGHT (23 AUGUST).

HE WAS ACCOMPANIED BY HIS HOST LIEUTENANT-GENERAL ANKRAH, CHAIRMAN OF THE RULING NATIONAL LIBERATION COUNCIL, MRS. MILDRED ANKRAH, THE VICE-CHAIRMAN OF THE N.L.C. MR. HARLLEY AND OTHER OFFICIALS.

THE TATTOO, WATCHED BY A LARGE CROWD, BEGAN WITH A DISPLAY BY THE ARMED FORCES CENTRAL BAND, THE NAVY BAND CORPS OF DRUMS, THE SECOND BATTALION OF INFANTRY CORPS OF DRUMS AND THE FOURTH BATTALION OF INFANTRY.

THEY WERE FOLLOWED BY MEMBERS OF THE WOMEN'S AUXILIARY CORPS GYMNASTICS TEAM. THE TEAM'S DISPLAY INCLUDED HOOP WORK AND PHYSICAL EXERCISES TO THE ACCOMPANIMENT OF MUSIC PROVIDED BY THE GHANA ARMED FORCES BAND.

TWO TEAMS REPRESENTING THE BASE AND GARRISON WORKSHOPS THEN COMPETED IN DISMANTLING AND ASSEMBLING A LAND ROVER. IT TOOK THE BASE WORKSHOP JUST FOUR MINUTES TO WIN THE EVENT.

SAPPERS OF THE FIRST FIELD ENGINEER REGIMENT WERE ALSO PRESENT TO SHOW OFF THEIR SKILLS - BUILDING A BRIDGE ACROSS AN IMAGINARY FORTY FOOT (12 METRES) WIDE RIVER. FIFTEEN MINUTES AFTER THEY HAD BEGUN THE BRIDGE WAS CAPABLE OF CARRYING A THREE-TON VEHICLE.

THIS WAS FOLLOWED BY A PHYSICAL TRAINING DISPLAY BY INSTRUCTORS OF THE MILITARY ACADEMY AND TRAINING SCHOOL, TESHIE.
