    Background: A delegation of high ranking officers of the Chilean Armed Forces arrived in Havana on Tuesday (11 January). The delegation of 25 officers, invited by the Ministry of Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba, was greeted at the airport by Prime Minister Fidel Castro and other government officials.

    The Chilean delegation is expected to be conducted on tours of various Luban military facilities during their stay.

    In December, Prime Minister Castro completed a 24-day visit to Chile, which was his first trip abroad in almost eight years and his first visit to Latin America since 1959.

    Coverage of the arrival of the Chilean Armed Forces delegation was provided by Cuban Television.

    SYNOPSIS: A special delegation of high ranking officers of the Chilean Armed Forces arrived in Havana on Tuesday. They were greeted by Cuba's Prime Minister Fidel Castro and Minister of the Armed Forces, Major Raul Castro.

    Also present to great the twenty-five man Chilean delegation were members of the Politburo, the Minister of the Interior, Major Sergic Del Valle and other officers. The delegation, invited by the Ministry of Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba, was scheduled to be conducted on tours of various military installations and other facilities.

    In December prime Minister Castro completed a twenty-four day visit to Chile, which was his first trip to Latin-America since 1959. A Chilean-Cuban communique said that the Prime Minister's visit was a step towards an understanding by Latin American countries that they must unite to confront powerful interests, which have slowed their development.
