Background: The Le Mans 24-hour sports car race... Drivers continued into the night of June 10/11 on the gruelling French track. A steady drizzle made the going hazardous. Some cars came to grief, and a few drivers ended up in hospital.
An expected, the Italian-built "Ferraris" soon went into the lead. And when the race ended, they held first three places. "Ferraris"also won the 1960 Le Mans race.
Fifty-five of the world's top racing cars roared off at the start. It was the 29th time the event had been staged.
