Background: Former Canadian Prime Minister, Lester Pearson, was given a state funeral in Ottawa on Sunday (31 December).
The cortege was drenched by icy rain as it moved trough the streets of the capital.
Preceded by a troop of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the hearse bearing Mr. Pearson's body drove from the Parliamentary Hall of Honour to the Christ Church Anglican cathedral. Leading the mourners was Prime Minister Pierrs Trudeau.
Mr. Pearson, who died on Wednesday from cancer at the age of 75, was Prime Minister of Canada from 1963 to 1968.
Before the funeral, his body lay in state in the Hall of Honour, where Canadians from all walks of life, and foreign representatives, paid their last respects..
Mr. Pearson was perhaps the best known Canadian of this century...winning the Nobel peace prize in 1957 for suggesting the establishment of the United Nations peacekeeping force in the Middle East.

Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau was there in tribute to a man who was Prime Minister of Canada from nineteen-sixty-three to nineteen-sixty-eight.
Mr. Pearson died on Wednesday of cancer at the age of seventy-five. He was perhaps the best known Canadian of this century...winning the Nobel Peace Prize for suggesting the establishment of a United Nations peace force in the Middle East in nineteen-fifty-seven. The peace medal was among decorations beside his casket.
Mr. Pearson was buried in a simple grave among the hills near Ottawa.
