Background: The United States dominated the halfway stage of the St. Ivel International Ice Skating Championships held at Richmond, London on September 30. Both events, the ice dance contest and the women's singles were won by American skaters. Judy Blumberg and Michael Siebert, the United States champions who divide their training between the U.S., Canada and Britain won the ice dance contest with a dazzling display of speed and style. All seven judges gave them first place with marks from 5.5 to 5.8, well ahead of the other competitors. Elaine Zayak also won a unanimous decision with a four-minute routine which included two triple toe loops in the first few seconds. Her performance delighted the Richmond audience and proved that her title as World Champion was well-deserved.
