Background: In Colombo, Oct 18, Stephen Leslie Bradley a 34-year-old Australian now held in Ceylon on a provisional warrant, was further remanded until Oct 24, in connection with the number of a young Sydney boy.

Bradley's remand was granted by a magistrate after the Crown Counsel had told the court that not all the 30 witnesses expected to be called during the current extradition hearing in Sydney had yet been heard. He said that, according to the Australian High Commissioner in Colombo, 19 had so far given evidence.

The remand was opposed by Bradley's Defense Counsel, on the ground that it had not been proved that Bradley was a fugitive. Bradley was taken off the liner "Himalaya" Oct 10, and first remanded in custody the following day when a magistrate was told the New South Wales Government was taking steps for his extradition.

A Sydney court is now hearing an application for the extradition of Bradley from Ceylon, where he is held on a provisional warrant charging him with the murder of eight-year-old Graeme Thorne. The boy was kidnapped on July 7 for a ransom of 25,000 Australian pounds.

One of the biggest manhunts in Australian history followed the kidnapping. The boy's body was discovered in August in a shallow grave some ten miles north of Sydney. Two Sydney detectives, Sgt. John Bateman and Sgt. Roy Coleman are also in Ceylon to interview Bradley.
