Background: In suburban Melbourne, a model plane enthusiast Mr. Stan BARTON, and sons Geoffrey and Raymond prepare for another day's flying. Mr. Barton, who's been interested in model planes for many years, builds his models in the family garage.

Both boys are keen on Dad's hobby, too, and weekends provide leisure hours for experimentation in conventional, and less conventional forms of flying models.

Mr. Barton is always keen to try out new ideas... and he got this one from an English model aeroplane magazine. It's actually made of wood... but the "flying carpet" is complete with Arabian pilot.

At a nearby park, curious passers-by gather to watch the strange machine prepared for flight. When he built it, Mr. Barton wasn't even sure it would fly... and if it would... how it would perform. But he spared nothing to achieve realism in building what he believes is Australia's first "flying carpet".

Complete with fringes, the carpet is launched into the air... airborne on specially designed curves in its surface. It can stay aloft for thirty seconds.

Fascinated, they're watching Melbourne's miniature "flying carpet". The end of its flight is sudden, but Mr. Barton hopes for longer flights more in keeping with its legendary Eastern ancestors.
