Background: The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Michael Ramsey, arrived in Nairobi, Kenya, yesterday (Monday 22 February) to preside over the first meeting of the newly-formed Anglican Consultative Council. The 10-Day meeting is being held at Limuru, near Nairobi.
The council is an advisory body bringing together 50 representatives of more than 47 million Anglicans from Africa, Asia, Australia, Britain and North America. After its first meeting the council will meet every two years to provide continuity of consultation between the Lambeth conferences of bishops held every 10 years. In opening the meeting today (February 23) Dr. Ramsey described it as a microcosm of the Anglican community.
