Background: Senegal's major industrial exhibition -- the Dakar International Trade Fair -- was opened by President Leopold Senghor on Thursday (28 November).
The Fair -- including exhibits by 400 firms from 44 counties -- covered several acres (hectares) at a site just outside the Senegalese capital.
President Senghor, in his opening speech, expressed concern about the impact of world inflation on hte economic development of poorer countries.
He said inflation could undermine not only the trading and internal growth of such countries, but would also serve to reduce international aid.
The International Trade Fair -- described by the Senegalese leader as "a challenge to the future" -- will continue until 15 December.
