Background: A Paris telephone operator has been receiving critical acclaim for the paintings she produces in her spare time. Sabrina Renaud won the Grand Prix International de Deauville for her painting "Chloe", over 957 other entries.
Her paintings, done at weekends and at night after work, display a style best described as surrealistic. She uses the human form in a stylised manner--almost as if her pictures represented androids from a science-fiction novel.
While Mme. Renaud has had numerous exhibitions of her work, most recently in Canada and the United States, she still prefers to sit by her paintings and show them in the streets of Paris.
SYNOPSIS: Sabrina Renaud is a telephone operator in Paris. Most days of the week she sits behind her panel, directing calls throughout the city and the world. But at weekends and after work she returns to her studio to concentrate on her main pleasure--painting.
She has gained critical acclaim for her paintings--done in a style best described as surrealistic. She won the International Grand Prize at Deauville over 957 other entries. And, one critic said she had "all the qualities of a great painter."
Sabrina Renaud says she prefers to work in the silence of the night. All her pictures have an unearthly quality. While she uses the human form for the basis of her composition, the figures she paints are not people. They appear mechanical--robots without flesh, but with an air of humanity about them. She admits that she herself does not always understand the images she paints.
Mme Renaud has had numerous exhibitions of her works--most recently in Canada and the United States. But, despite shows around the world, she still prefers to show her paintings in the streets of Paris...And, despite her success in the art world, Sabrina Renaud still intends to continue working as a telephone operator.
