    TRANSCRIPT: YEMEN DELEGATE (SEQ. 4): "My delegation would like to (indistinct) on the following points: One, my delegation maintains that the declarations of independence of Qatar and the other countries and emirates do not change their colonial relationships between the entities and their colonial brethrens and are therefore fakes, and its disregard for the wishes of the people for real independence and self rule is not condusive to peace and stability in the area."



    Chairman (SEQ. 6): "I take it that the Council is now ready to proceed with the vote. Will those in favour of the draft resolution, recommended by the committee in paragraph four of this report, document S/10318, please raise their hands. The draft resolution received 15 votes in favour and has therefore been adopted unanimously."

    Background: The United Nations Security Council on Wednesday (September 15) unanimously recommended to the General Assembly to admit the Arab Emirate of Qatar to United Nations membership.

    Qatar, which covers eight thousand square miles and is home to one hundred thousand people declared its independence on September 3. If approved by the General Assembly when it opens its autumn session next week, Qatar will become the 130th member of the world organisation.

    But before the Security Council voted on Qatar's admission, the chief delegate from The Peoples Democratic Republic of Yemen spoke against the admission.
