Background: King Faisal of Saudi Arabia has completed a successful three-day state visit to the Central African country of Chad. The King was farewelled at the airport on Sunday (19 November), by his host, President Francois Tombalbaye.
A large, cheering crowd was at the airport for the monarch's departure.
King Faisal made no statement before boarding his aircraft. But sides made it clear he was very pleased with his Chad visit.
On the last day of the visit, King Faisal and President Tombalbaye issued a joint communique supporting African territories "under foreign domination". The communique also promised support for Arab countries and the Palestinians in the Middle East.
King Faisal spent his last day in Chad's capital, visiting the Fort Lamy Mosque, and the Hippodroma where he watched horse racing. During the visit, King Faisal announced that his country's diplomatic representation in Chad would be raised to ambassadorial level. He also invited president Tombalbaye to visit Saudi Arabia. The President said he would in the near future.
King Faisal visited Chad on the second stage of a tour of several African countries. After leaving Chad, the King flew to Dakar in Senegal.
