    Background: New developments in education have been revealed by the West African Examinations Council Registrar, Mr. Vincent Chukwuemeka Ike, at a press conference held in Accra, Ghana.

    The council, which provides a guiding influence an educational methods and standards in West African countries, recently held its annual meeting in Gambia.

    Mr. Ike explained at the conference on Wednesday (24 May) that this had been the first opportunity he had of discussing some of the important decisions taken at the annual meeting.

    With him was the Senior Deputy Registrar of the council, Mr. Tom Beatin, the consultant to the council, Mr. J.A. Crenje, and the examinations controller, Mr. I.A. Okine.

    Mr. Ike said that the council had approved the formation of national committee for technical and commercial examinations which would be responsible for developing new syllabuses more suitable for local conditions.
