Background: President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Zayad Bin Sultan Al Nahayan received Palestine Librational Organisation (PLO) leader Yasser Arafat and Algerian President Chadli Bendjedid in Abu Dhabi on Sunday (30 March). In separated talks President Sheikh Zayed discussed the current situation in the Middle East with both his guests.
SYNOPSIS: Yasser Arafat arrived in Abu Dhabi from New Delhi, where he had spent three days at the invitation of Indian government. At the airport he was greeted by President Sheikh Zayad, UAE's Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Lieutenant, General Sheikh Khalifa Hamdan Bin Mohamed and a number of other minister and senior government officials, as well as Islamic and Arab diplomats in the country. President Sheikh Zayed and his guest discussed current political trends in the Middle East in the light of recent developments in iran and Afghanistan.
In separate talks President Sheikh Zayed and Algerian President Chadli reviewed the current situation in the Arab world. The discussions were attended ministers and senior officials. After the talks which lasted for 90 minutes Foreign Minister Rashid Abdulla said the two Presidents agreed to hold more meetings on Arab and Islamic solidarity.
