Background: President Julius Nyerere of Tanzania made a brief stop at Addis Ababa's Bole International Airport on Thursday afternoon (31 October), to meet the Chairman of Ethiopia's Military Administrative Council, Lt.-Gen. Aman Mikael Andom.
President Nyerere was on his way to Sudan, and his brief visit to Ethiopia was the first one by a head of State since the overthrow of Emperor Haile Selassie in September.
When his plane touched down, the Tanzanian President was accorded full miliary honours, and he was welcome by Lt.-Gen. Aman, and other members of the Provisional Military Council. Also present were the ambassadors of Tanzania, Zambia and the Sudan.
After taking the salute of the Guard of Honour on the Airport tarmac, Lt.-Gen. Amen and his guest retired to the airport's VIP lounge, where they held talks for forty-five minutes on bilateral relations. Also present was Tanzania's Foreign Minister, Mr. John Malecela, and other officials from both governments.
