Background: Two Yogis, named Lookan and Yone, succeeded in breaking Silki's record, the previous world fasting champion.
Lookan went without food for 134 days and nights, against Silki's 107 days and nights. Lookan's wife, Yone, also attains world championship status, in that her fast of 76 days constitutes a record for a woman.
The two Yogis are Brazilian nationals. A spectator is reported to have said that the Yogis had nothing to worry about in view of the ever increasing cost of food!
When released from their glass cages both Yone and Lookan received a hearty welcome, especially from their son, who had kept his parents company for most of the time.
Yone and Lookan were taken away to Sao Paulo's Centenario Hospital for treatment.
