Background: Rescue teams continue the hunt for victims of the Georgia train disaster. A train carrying butane gas plunged off a trestle bridge into the river Ogeechee, near Meldrim, June 28, causing the deaths of 19 Sunday trippers, including many small children.

The disaster began when two butane tank wagons exploded. Fire spurted hundreds of years splashing blue flame and searing heat over the river and along a beach by the bridge.

Hundreds of people had gathered at the beach, a popular fishing and swimming playground, to escape a 100 degree heat wave.

Some were burned to death as they swam, boated and fished. The wooden trestle bridge was as blazing pyre.

Rescue vehicles, ambulances and helicopters jammed roads to the area. A survivor said: "The train came across the bridge and apparently jumped the track. The bridge fell into the water then the gas tanks exploded, sending a sheet of flame across the water ... a lot of little boys and girls screamed and ran for their lives. There was nothing anybody could do."
