Background: Accra Sports Stadium was the scene of some enthusiastic boxing last Saturday (9 November) when top-rated African boxers traded blows in the ring. The centre of interest was the match between D. K. Poison of Ghana, holder of the African Featherweight title and a leading contender from the Ivory Coast, Osmanu Toure.
Poison is the No 2 contender for the World title and is due to challenge Britain's Evan Armstrong for the Commonwealth title in Accra on December 7th. Poison sent Toure to the canvas for counts of eight in the third and fifth rounds.
The referee stopped the fight before the sixth round began. Poison's easy win is bound to improve his chances is the coming fight against Evan Armstrong.
Another interesting boot was the one between Dan Patterson, the Ivory Coast Lightweight Champion who met Oblitey Commey the Ghanaian Champion.
