Background: Film shows one of the major water conservancy construction cites in the Pearl River Delta of Kwangtung Province.
An important granary in Kwangtung, the Pearl River Delta had been subject to constant typhoons and floods which seriously affected the area's crops. To bring the destructive forces of nature under complete control, a large number of irrigation and drainage projects has been constructed in the Delta area this year.
The work of removing the soil is effectively accomplished by means of high pressure water pumps.
The muddy water is bought to the low lands where it is expected to make hitherto useless spots yield crops.
The completion of this project will give protection to the land of six people's communes against tidal innudations. Other benefits include de-salination of the land and fresh water irrigation.
