Background: President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt met leading Parliamentarians in Cairo on June 12 to discuss his foreign policy priorities. The Egyptian leaders met members of the National Assembly, the Council for Foreign Relations, the Arab Affairs and National Security Committees, as well as members of the pro-government National Democratic Party. Mr. Mubarak spoke about the struggle in Lebanon following the Israel invasion. Egypt condemned both the Israeli action and the United States' veto of a UN Security Council resolution condemning the invasion. President Mubarak also sent a personal Israeli withdrawal. The question of Egypt's links with the rest of the Arab world were also expected to be on the agenda. Radical Arab states, such as Libya, Syria and the Peoples' Democratic Republic of Yemen, still oppose the full reintegration of Egypt into Arab ranks.
