TRANSCRIPT: INTERVIEWER: MR. MACDONALD, YOU MUST BE THE MOST TRAVELLED OVERSEAS ADMINISTRATOR TODAY. HOW MANY TOP APPOINTMENTS HAVE YOU HAD?

TRANSCRIPT: MACDONALD: WELL, AFTER HAVING THREE CABINET POSTS, THEN I STARTED OVERSEAS AND I WAS A HIGH COMMISSIONER IN CANADA, AND A GOVERNOR-GENERAL, IN SOUTH-EAST ASIA, AND A COMMISSIONER-GENERAL AND I'VE BEEN A HIGH COMMISSIONER IN INDIA. I SUPPOSE IT ADDS UP TO FIVE OR SIX.

INTERVIEWER: HOW DOES THIS EXPERIENCE MAKE YOU SEE THE SITUATION IN KENYA, TODAY?

MACDONALD: WELL, I THINK KENYA, LIKE AFRICA, WILL BE VERY DIFFERENT FROM NORTH AMERICA, AND FROM ASIA WHERE ALL MY EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN BEFORE. THOUGH, IN SOME WAYS, OF COURSE, SIMILAR TO ASIA. IT IS SOMETHING COMPLETELY NEW FOR ME IN MANY WAYS. I THINK IT IS DIFFICULT, BUT I'M ALL THE PROBLEMS CAN BE ALL OVERCOME.

INTERVIEWER: ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO THE JOB?

MACDONALD: I LOOK FORWARD TO IT ENORMOUSLY. I WANT TO SEE SOME SUN INSTEAD OF SOME SNOW. I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING AFRICA, AND LIVING IN AFRICA, AFTER OTHER CONTINENTS. AND I LOOK FORWARD TO THE JOB VERY MUCH, AND TO WORKING WITH ALL THE LEADERS IN AFRICA.

INTERVIEWER: THANK YOU VERY MUCH, SIR.
