Background: Dr. Mohammed Hassan el-Zayyat, Egypt's new Foreign Minister, arrived at Brussels Airport on Wednesday (20 Sept) to being a three-day visit to belgium. Dr. Zayyat, who arrived amid very strict security precautions, is to continue talks -- exploring the attitude of European countries towards prospects of peace in the Middle East -- which he began during the pat week with visits to Rome and London. M. Pierre Harmel, his Belgian counterpart, was among officials at the airport to greet him. Dr. Zayyat will hold several rounds of talks with M. Harmel and also Professor Ralf Dahrendorf the EEC Commissioner responsible for external relations and trade, before returning to Cairo on Saturday (23 September).
SYNOPSIS: Armed police formed part of a strict security force at Brussels airport on Wednesday as Belgian officials awaited the arrival of Egypt's new Foreign Minister, Dr. Zayyat, on a three-day visit.
Dr. Zayyat's aircraft, which was bringing him from London, was over an hour late because of fog. Earlier in the week Dr. Zayyat had visited Rome as well as London, on a tour aimed at establishing European attitudes towards peace prospects in the Middle East.
Among welcoming officials at Brussels was M. Pierre Harmel, Dr. Zayyat's counterpart, with whom he was to hold further talks.
