Background: Four people were killed and twenty-two injured when an electric train was derailed near Milan, Italy, March 6th. The driver was among those killed.
The accident was apparently due to a fault in the front wheels of the locomotive, but an enquiry was begun immediately by railway officials.
Scene of the derailment was near the viaduct on the Milan-Chiasso line. Services were interrupted until it was found the viaduct was not seriously damaged. A single track was opened to rail traffic, while the other line was still obstructed by wreckage.
