Background: Five members of a seven-man Romanian delegation on an official visit to Zimbabwe laid a wreath at Heroes' Acre near Salisbury on Friday (August 22) in honour of two nationalist leaders killed before the country attained independence.

SYNOPSIS: The delegation was led by Romania's Deputy Premier, Nicolae Constantin. The two nationalist leaders were General Josiah Tongogara who died in a road accident in Mozambique last December, and Jason Moyo who was killed in a bomb explosion in Lusaka, Zambia.

The laying of the wreath was observed by the parents of the late General Tongogara, as well as by his window, Mrs. Angeline Tongogara. The Romanians were accompanied to Heroes' Acre by Zimbabwe's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Simon Muzenda, and member of parliament Mr. Mayor Urimbo.

The Romanians had arrived in Zimbabwe a week previously for talks with the government on the opportunities for joint ventures in a number of fields including agriculture, mining. energy and trade. Romania is likely to provide Zimbabwe with agricultural machinery and technical expertise in keeping with Zimbabwe's priorities of resettlement and reconstruction.
