Background: 'Musical Marie' - toast of Cork City, Eire - broke the world marathon piano-playing record, July 19. She had spent 133 hours at the keyboard - one hour more than German Heinz Arntz the previous title-holder.
This 17-stone Manchester housewife was attended by four male and four female nurses operating in relays. Over 12,000 people visited Cork Central Hall to watch this dark-glasses-wearing, hands-bandaged mammoth, marathon piano player.
During the last hours special marshalling arrangements were made to control the growing, excited crowd.
