These shots were filmed by our cameraman near Moscow. The unusually hot and dry weather of this summer caused the spontaneous ignition of peat and bushland. Smoke covered large areas. Volunteers from factories, collective and state farms, firemen, militia entered the fight against this dangerous phenomenon of nature. Peat fires are capricious. They are hidden from the eye and rage under the ground, then suddenly appear on the surface in forests and bushes. Powerful vehicles make cuttings in forests and dig trenches around flames. The largest areas of flames are put out by explosions. Forest fires raged in the Moscow, Kostroma, Kalinin and Vladimir Districts. United and energetic musters have localised the fire. All centres of fire are localised by encircling trenches - the fire will not be allowed to spread any further.
