Background: Jordan and the Palestine Liberation Organisation (P.L.O.) agreed in Cairo on Saturday (4 January) to refrain from actions or words that would hinder the development of relations between them, Arab League Secretary-General Mahmoud Riad announced.

Mr. Riad had been chairing a series of meetings in Cairo over two days between Jordan's Prime Minister Zeid Al-Rifai, P.L.O. representative Farouk Kaddoumi, Syria's Foreign Minister Halim Khaddam and Egypt's Foreign Minister Ismail Fahmy.

Mr. Riad told a press conference after the meetings had ended that the four parties had decided to hold such meetings periodically. the first of these will be held in the Syrian capital, Damascus, next month.

This film includes a long segment of Mr. Riads's statement in Arabic.
