Background: VISNEWS filmed King Mohammed V of Morocco visiting the southern part of his country of May 9-12th.
His Majesty travelled with a large entourage, including his three wives for part of the journey. The route included visits to Mogador, Agadir and the oasis of Tiznit. At Agadir, the King laid the foundation stone for a new mosque. He also visited the small Berber village of Tafroute, high in the Atlas Mountains.
It was the first visit to the south of a reigning monarch since the unification of Morocco in 1956, and the King - regarded as a symbol of Moroccan independence and bringer of blessings because of his religious heritage - was given a warm reception all along his route.
