Background: George Foreman, the World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, arrived in Kinshasa, Zaire, on Thursday (12 September) to begin final training for his title bout against Muhammad Ali on 25 September.
Foreman, who travelled with his Alsation dog, Dago, bounded down the steps of his aircraft when it landed at Kinshasa Airport, and into the arms of a waiting welcoming party. The champion received bouquets of flowers from two young children and later posed with them for photographers.
On Friday (13 September) Foreman boxed six rounds with a sparring partner at his training camp at N'sele, about 40 miles (60 km) from the capital. Foreman trained in front of an enthusiastic audience, although a supporter from the opposing camp did deal out a few verbal taunts.
Foreman has promised to win the bout....even if it takes him the full 15 rounds.
