Background: Soviet athletes dominated the Vladimir Volkov international acrobatics meet in Riga on Tuesday (23 November).

SYNOPSIS: 13 - year-old Becky Hamblen was one of the U.S. athletes competing by special invitation.

She did well to finish second in the women's jump.

But Soviet athlete Lyudmilla Lesovaya took this event with a superb jump.

The mixed pairs was one of the highlights of the meeting and the performance of Lyudmilla Polischuk and Victor Zhaporozhets was almost perfect. Amongst those behind the Soviet pair were 1976 world champions Tatiana Krivtsova and Vyacheslav Kuznetsov, who finally finished in fourth place.

The Soviet Union also won the men's pairs. The winning combination was Vassili Machuga and Vladimir Pochivalov. Their routine was characterised by absolutely synchronised actions in complex exercises.
