    Background: Representatives of several African countries have been meeting in the Zambian capital Lusaka to discuss the problems of migratory labour in southern Africa. Case studies considered during the meeting have come from Lesotho, Mozambique, South Africa, Botswana, Malawi, Swaziland, Namibia (Southwest Africa) and Rhodesia. Also involved in the discussions have been the African National Council and representatives of the guerrilla organisations, Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) Patriotic Front, and the Namibia SWAPO.

    The conference was formally opened by Angola's Minister of Labour and Social Security, Mr. Noe da Silva Saude, who addressed the meeting in Portuguese, with an interpreter translation into English.
