Background: Over 14,000 students of all colleges and other cities of Mysore state including Bangalore went on indefinite strike in protest against the rise in fees.
The present increase in the salaries of Government servants prompted the Mysore Government to raise the tuition fees. The students resenting this uncalled for action on the part of the authorities went on strike. So successful is the strike that not even a single college remained open. The ladies College 'Maharani's College' took the lead and the girls walked out of the College in totto demonstrating outside the State Assembly offices.
The state Minister of Education has promised to defer the matter for the time being provided the students accept in principle the question of fees raise which the student's leaders rejected straight away.
