Background: Australian pacemen Lillee and Thomson continued to intimidate the England batsmen in the Fifth Test at Adelaide today (27 January). On the easiest pitch they have encountered so far in this test series, England were all out for 172 in their first innings.
England's latest batting disaster began in the day's first over. From his third ball, Lillee had Amiss caught by Ian Chappell at first slip. After that, wickets fell with distressing regularity for England.
Denness was top scorer with 51. Lillee took four wickets, Thomson and Mallett -- who mopped up the tail -- took three apiece.
Leading on the first innings by 132, Australia went on to score a further III for 2 wickets by the close of the third day's play.
