THE BAATH PARTY HAS GOVERNED SYRIA FOR SEVEN YEARS AND HEAD OF STATE DR. NUREDDIN EL-ATASSI TOOK PART IN LAST MONTH'S CELEBRATIONS WHICH MARKED THE SEVENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE REVOLUTION WHICH BROUGHT THE PARTY TO POYER.

    UNIFORMED STUDENTS IN DAMASCUS SCHOOLS TOOK PART IN THE CELEBRATIONS. IN OTHER PARTS OF THE SYRIAN CAPITAL, ARMED SOLDIERS HAD TO BE USED TO RESTRAIN THE ENTHUSIASTIC CROWDS.

    ON TUESDAY EVENING, LARGE CROWDS OF PEOPLE, MANY OF WHOM WERE IN UNIFORM, TOOK PART IN TORCHLIGHT PROCESSIONS AND MARCHED PAST THE OFFICES OF THE BAATH PARTY WHICH WERE FESTOONED WITH LIGHTS AND BANNERS.

    DURING LAST MONTH'S CELEBRATIONS, SYRIA ACCUSED THE UNITED STATES OF BEING THE LEADING INSTIGATOR OF THE 1967 ARAS-ISRAELI WAR AND OF ALLYING ITSELF TO ZIONISM. DR. EL-ATASSI ALSO REAFFIRMED SYRIA'S REJECTION OF THE UNITED NATIONS MIDDLE-EAST SETTLEMENT PLAN.
