Background: The Cambodian National Assembly on Thursday ended the country's 17-day-old political crisis by voting overwhelmingly in favour of a new Cabinet.

It was submitted by Marshal Lon Nol who will remain as Prime Minister. But as he is still stricken with the effects of a stroke suffered last February, the day-to-day running of the country will continue to be the task of his deputy, Major General Sirik Matak.

He will be supported by three Vice-Premiers - Brigadier General In Tam, Sok Chhong and Hang Thun Hak. The Cabinet has been reshuffled in an effort to revitalise Cambodia's badly-hit economy as well as maintaining the war effort against the Communists.

Out of the 65 members present at the National Assembly on Thursday, 50 voted in favour of the new government. Only one opposed it, with the other 14 members either abstaining or casting blank votes.
