Background: Tunisia qualified for the finals of the World Soccer Cup next year in Argentina with an easy 4-1 home victory over Egypt on Sunday (11 December). The Egyptians needed only a draw to reach the finals but they never looked like achieving it.

SYNOPSIS: The Egyptian team had high hopes of going to Argentina when they came out onto the field at the Olympic Stadium in Tunis.

But it was the Tunisians, playing from left to right in the white strip, who went on the attack right from the start.

They needed only 15 minutes to score their first goal when right back Dhouib sent over a high centre from which Akid placed a header out of the reach of Egyptian goalkeeper Ikrami.

Gaining in confidence the Tunisian team kept up the pressure and they were rewarded three minutes before the interval with another goal, scored this time by Temime.

In the second half Egypt fought back and looked better organised in midfield. But in their efforts to close the gap they left themselves vulnerable to counterattacks.

Tunisia's third and fourth goals both came in this fashion. In the 65th minute Ben Aziza, who'd come on as a substitute only minutes before, made it 3-0 -- and virtually certain that Egypt would not be able to force a draw. Only 10 minutes later another substitute, Labidi, added Tunisia's final goal. The Egyptians continued to press forward and they finally pulled one back when Abdelbaki headed home a free kick in the 80th minute.
