Background: Bengali troops of the self-styled "Liberation Army", with the he of civilian volunteers, have taken and are holding the town of Jessore in East Pakistan, About 1,000 soldiers of the Pakistan Army remain in control of the military cantonment area on the outskirts. Few of the civilian volunteers of the secessionist forces have more than single-barrelled shotguns, while most are armed with sharpened bamboo sticks.

Visnews cameraman, Prem Prakash, went into Jessore near the Indian border on Friday (2 April) and took this film showing the "Liberation Army" in firm control of Jessore, while charred bodies still lay in the streets. Although some refugees were living in camps on the outskirts, many more were moving to villages deeper in the countryside.
