Background: United States troops probed through the huge communist base known as "the city" yesterday (Friday) and turned up the biggest communist arsenal of the war. The cache included 3,671 individual weapons, 384 crew-manned weapons and 617 tons of foodstuffs. Soviet-made anti-aircraft guns have also been found.
President Nixon, when he ordered United States forces into Cambodia, said they were looking for a military base such as "the city".
The find yesterday included big trucks, carts and bicycles to transport the communist weapons, a military training school, 20 mess halls, and an underground storage area packed to capacity.
One of the major problems now facing the Americans is how to remove the huge find. It seems that trucks will have to used because there's too much to remove by helicopter.
The centre of the city is about 2 miles (3 kms) from the South Vietnamese border and about 7 miles (11 kms) from the Cambodian town of Snoul.
