Background: Mr. Yehoshua Rash, Israel's new Ambassador to Togo, presented his credentials on Monday, 18 December -- and President Eyadema told him he dearly hoped a solution would be found to the grave quarrel between Israel and its Arab neighbours.
The President said Togo had lived in peace for six years, and well appreciated the benefits of peace, and had enjoyed its fruits.
Mr. Rash is an expert on Africa. He made several visits to African states while he was attached to the Jewish Mission in Paris. Later he was correspondent on African affairs for an Israeli newspaper. Since 1967 he has been Ambassador to Niger.
SYNOPSIS: Mr. Yehoshua Rash, the new Israeli Ambassador to Togo, presented his credentials in Lome last week.
He was received at the presidential palace by General Etienne Eyadema. The Togolese President expressed the hope that there would soon be a just and long-lasting solution to the Middle East crisis.
President Eyadema said that Togo, unlike Israel, had lived in peace for six years and thus appreciated its blessing, as well as enjoying its fruits.
Ambassador Rash is one of Israel's top experts on African affairs. He was Ambassador to Niger from 1967, until his transfer to Togo.
