AFTER HOURS OF TOWING THROUGH HEAVY SEAS LIFE BOAT COXSWAIM PETER SMITH OF BEMBRIDGE AND HIS CREW REACHED THE NAB LIGHTHOUSE, BUT WERE UNABLE TO MAKE HEADWAY AGAINST THE N.E. GALE AND SEA THEY THEN HEADED BACK TO THE NEEDLES (I.O.W) TO SEEK A MORE SHELTERED ENTRY TO THE SOLENT AND PASSED THE NEEDLES COASTGUARD AT 6.30 A.M. 24 DEC.

A RADIO MESSAGE FROM THE "JENNY LUMB" SAID "HEADING A FOR COWES HARBOUR WITH "PATIENCE" WILL REFUEL ON ARRIVAL. AT 10 A.M.
