Background: An exciting day in golf.. The American professional Arnold Palmer this afternoon (9.11.63) came from behind to win the rich Wills Masters Golf Tournament in Sydney by two strokes from fellow American Jack Nicklaus. Here's how the leaders finished: Arnold Palmer with 285 after a final round of sixty nine (three under par) Jack Nicklaus was two strokes behind, 287; and Australian Kel Nagle, five strokes behind Nicklaus in third place. The hero of the morning's play was Nicklaus - and here he is hitting off on the eighteenth hole on the third round. This is where he was setting a new record for the Lakes course in Sydney with some brilliant hard hitting play which kept the gallery excited.
Several hundreds were following him to see him finish the round with a 64 - eight under par and a record. But the final stroke was too fast for the cameraman.
Arnold Palmer gets himself out of a bunker of the eighteenth.. Palmer had led after the second round, but was overtaken in this third round by Jack Nicklaus. While Palmer had some bad luck here, he made up for it in the fourth round later when he carded a sixty nine (three under par)
Another top liner of the tournament - South African Gary Player, who finished up in fourth place - three strokes behind Kel Nagle. He and Colin McGregor of N.S.W. both finished 295 to take joint fourth place. Here Player sinks a putt.
Kel Nagle just misses with a long putt. He finished this third round equal second with Palmer but unfortunately couldn't keep up with Arnold Palmer in that final round of the Wills Tournament.
