Background: India celebrated its 25th year of independence from Britain on August 15 with ceremonies in Delhi and state capitals.
In a traditional Independence Day celebration at the historic Read Fort in Delhi, the Prime Minister, Mrs. Indira Gandhi, unfurled the Indian national flag at the spot where it was first raised by Jawahralal Nehru.
In a speech she warned Indians that they faced a hard and leisureless existence for many years to come.
