Background: The prescribed Irish Republic Army turned out in large numbers at Edentubber -- a mile from the Eire-Northern Ireland border -- on November 16, for a memorial service to five comrades killed in action against British security forces at Newry, Co. Down, last year. A monument to the five was dedicated by the Chairman of the I.R.A. Committee.

As the Catholic Church frowns on the I.R.A.'s activities no priest could be found to officiate. After speeches and prayers there was a wreath-laying ceremony and then a parade of I.R.A. members.
