Background: The Royal Netherlands Navy held its annual Navy Day at the naval base of Dan Helder today. The prime purpose of the display was to arouse the public interest in the Navy's activities and thus stimulate recruiting for the service.
Great crowds of young people attacked and viewed the proceedings with excitement and interest. Frogmen gave demonstrations, and there was an amphibious assault on a beachhead with landing craft supported by helicopters.
A harvest was to be garnered by pleasure craft who crowded sightseers aboard for ours of the harbour and the naval vessels scored there. Among the ships scored in the harbour were the cruisers De Zeven Provincien and De Ruyter, both of which are soon to be equipped with the Terrier guided missile.
